Ultrasound of the thyroid gland

The thyroid gland is the organ that produces hormones that affect all body functions. the lack or excess of the latter causes malfunctions in all body systems. That is why it is important to undergo an ultrasound diagnosis in time, which can warn the doctor about abnormalities even in cases where changes in the gland do not show clinical signs yet.

Thyroid sonography

Organs being examined. A sonographic examination of the thyroid gland includes a detailed examination of the paired thyroid lobes, the isthmus, the areas where the parathyroid glands are located, and the adjacent lymph nodes by an experienced ultrasound specialist (radiologist), using modern and expert equipment.

Duration. The examination takes 10-20 minutes. Patients must register in advance to receive the service without waiting.

Sonography report submission form. You can receive the results and images of the examination both in paper and electronic form in Armenian or Russian.

Preparation for sonography. There are no special prerequisites for the examination, but in this case, in case of acute pain in the neck area, patients can come in urgently, and the sonography will be performed without a queue, with as little waiting as possible.

When should thyroid ultrasound be performed

Given the fact that the thyroid gland affects the functioning of all body systems, the manifestations of disorders can be different.

suspected enlargement of the thyroid gland in size (can be determined by a doctor on palpation or visual examination),
redness of the skin in this area,
a feeling of pain and discomfort with light pressure,
an indistinct change in the timbre of the voice,
the occurrence of rhythm disturbances,
swelling of the extremities,
increased body temperature,
hair loss,
weight gain or loss,
an uncontrollable feeling anxiety,
nervousness, agitation,
trembling of the extremities,
regular intake of hormonal drugs,
monitoring of endocrine diseases detected earlier,
early menopause or persistent delay of the menstrual cycle in women.

For preventive purposes, it is recommended to conduct a thyroid examination once a year (especially after 45 years), as well as in the case of hereditary predisposition to cancer.

Women and girls are more likely to suffer from thyroid diseases.
