Breast sonography or ultrasound

Duration. The examination takes 20-40 minutes. Patients must register in advance to receive the service without waiting.

Sonography report submission form. You can receive the results and images of the examination both in paper and electronic form in Armenian or Russian.

Preparation for sonography. There are no special prerequisites for the examination, but in an unplanned case, for example, in the case of acute pain in the breast area, you can come in urgently, and the sonography will be performed without a queue, with as little waiting as possible.

For what complaints do you need ultrasound or X-ray mammographic studies of the mammary glands?

• Formation in the chest and armpits, palpation of hardened areas, discomfort of any type, for example, burning, rumbling, tingling and pain

From the point of view of further treatment, preventive studies are more correct and effective.        

Numerous studies have proved that the majority of breast cancers detected by preventive studies occur at the first or second stage, at which the probability that women will live 5 or more years reaches 98% and 90%, respectively.

Let’s talk about numbers․  Out of 100 women with cancer detected at the first stage, 98 will live for 5 years or more, 90 at the second stage, 70 at the third stage, and only 25 at the fourth stage. The conclusion is obvious.

And in which case to undergo an ultrasound, in which case an X-ray mammographic examination?

• Women and girls under the age of 40 should begin breast examination with the ultrasound method, depending on the structure and size of the mammary glands, sometimes it is necessary to conduct an X-ray mammography examination.
• Women over the age of 40 should start with an X-ray mammography, and if necessary, undergo an ultrasound on the recommendation of a radiologist.

It is important to note that the results of ultrasound strongly depend on the instruments, the type of device and the attention of the radiologist. It is necessary to scan the mammary glands in the transverse, longitudinal, radial, antiradial planes so that not a single cm3 is left without scanning.

What should I do to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer?

• Breastfeed your babies as long as possible
• Be physically active
• Track your weight

Avoid cigarette smoke, alcohol abuse, taking hormones without a doctor’s appointment and excessive radiation exposure.
